The invention relates to a process and device for eliminating interference signals in a light barrier (1) with a transmitter (2), a receiver (3) and an evaluation unit (11) connected to the receiver (3). The transmitter (2) periodically transmits sequences of light pulses with a defined pulse duration TP and a defined period TS. The signals at the receiver (3) are assessed in the evaluation unit (11) only within limited activation time intervals. The duration of said intervals depends upon whether light pulses are registered within said intervals.
