摘要 PURPOSE: To improve prediction efficiency by adaptively switching a mode for calculating a predictive image with geometrical transformation and a mode for calculating the prediction image with translation for each block. CONSTITUTION: A dividing part 1 for rectangular blocks and a lattice-point motion estimating part 2 calculate the motion vectors of lattice-points by dividing a reference image into rectangles. A translation motion estimating part 3 calculates the moving direction of blocks on the reference image and calculates motion vectors (translation vecotors) in the case of translation of the blocks themselves. A motion compensating predicting part 4 performs motion compensating prediction due to the geometrical transformation, a motion compensating predicting part 5 performs motion compensating prediction by translation, and the respective outputted prediction images are supplied to a prediction image selecting part 6. The prediction image selecting part 6 adaptively selects a prediction image for each block and outputs the prediction image and prediction mode information.
