PURPOSE:To obtain the title polymer solution useful for producing impact- resistant polymers, etc., by polymerizing a mixture solution of a conjugated diene compound and a vinyl aromatic compound in the presence of a polymerization catalyst of a conjugated diene having no copolymerizability with the vinyl aromatic compound up to a specific conversion rate. CONSTITUTION:A mixture solution consisting of 1-70 pts.wt. conjugated diene compound (e.g., butadiene) and 99-30 pts.wt. vinyl aromatic compound (e.g., styrene) is prepared in the presence (absence) of an inert solvent and polymerization is started at <=150 deg.C polymerization temperature using a polymerization catalyst (e.g., neodymium phosphate) for the conjugated compound having no or low copolymerizability with the vinyl aromatic compound to advance the polymerization so as to provide >=50% conversion rate of the conjugated diene compound to polymer and <=10% conversion rate of the vinyl aromatic compound. Thereby the aimed polymer solution of the conjugated diene compound is obtained. Furthermore, the residual monomer of the solution is subjected to radical or anionic polymerization to afford an impactresistant vinyl aromatic compound polymer. |
