ORGANIC BINDER FOR COMPACTING CERAMICS, ITS PRODUCTION AND ITS USE

PURPOSE: To improve environmental condition safety and thermal decomposability by dispersion-polymerizing a vinyl monomer in water or a water-soluble org. solvent in the presence of a specified dispersion stabilizer. CONSTITUTION: Alkylene oxide having >=70wt.% ethylene oxide content is addition-polymerized to an org. compd. having two active hydrogen groups if necessary to obtain a dispersion stabilizer for polymn. made of a water-soluble high molecular compd. having an average mol.wt. of >=30,000. One or more kinds of vinyl monomers are added by 100 pts.wt. to a soln. prepd. by dissolving 1-30 pts.wt. of the stabilizer in water or a mixture of water with a water-soluble org. solvent and the monomers are dispersed by vigorous stirring and (co) polymerized in the presence of a polymn. catalyst under vigorous stirring to obtain the objective org. binder made of a polymer having a wt. average mol.wt. of 100,000-1,000,000. A ceramic precursor compsn. is obtd. by blending 100 pts.wt. ceramic powder having <=20.0μm average particle diameter with 5-30 pts.wt. of the org. binder.
