PURPOSE: To prepare a vinyl chloride-based resin emulsion useful as a water- based coating material requiring excellent anti-efflorescence properties, water and chemical resistances, flexibility, mechanical strength, and also high adhesion by emulsion polymerizing a polymerizable monomer mixture of a specific composition. CONSTITUTION: This vinyl chloride-based resin emulsion is prepared by performing an emulsion polymerization of a polymerizable monomer mixture consisting of (A) 30-80wt.% vinyl chloride monomer, (B) 10-60wt.% alkyl (meth) acrylate [e.g. methyl (meth)acrylate], (C) 1-20wt.% polymerizable monomer having a group selected from carboxyl, hydroxyl and epoxy groups [e.g. (meth) acrylic acid or 2-hydroxyethyl (meth)acrylate] and (D) 0.1-10wt.% polymerizable monomer containing an alkoxysily group [e.g. vinyltrimethoxysilane]. The emulsion is usually obtained by polymerizing the components A to D using water as a dispersing medium in the presence of a surfactant and using a water- soluble polymerization initiator in a reactor equipped with a stirring blade. |
