Prepn. of aromatic amines (I) of formula (A), where X = NH2, involves gas phase hydrogenation of nitro-aromatics (II) of formula (A), where X = NO2, with H2 on stationary catalyst (III). The novelty is that hydrogenation is carried out at 1-30, pref. 1-20, esp. 1-58 bar and at an inlet temp. of the (II)/H2 mixt. of 200-400, pref. 230-370, esp. 250-350 degrees C and max. (III) temp. of 500 degrees C under adiabatic conditions. R<1>, R<2> = H, Me or Et and R<1> may also = NH2 in (I) and NO2 in (II). |
