PURPOSE: To provide a thermal transfer recording medium enabling sharp and inexpensive thermal transfer recording of high image quality on a smooth receiving material. CONSTITUTION: In a thermal transfer recording medium used in a method forming an image forming a negative type mask plate on a smooth receiving material by a melt thermal transfer recording method, at least a thermal transfer ink is provided on a base material. The thermal transfer layer contains 10-90wt.% of an isocyanate polymer of a higher fatty acid/polyhydric alcohol ester having a melt viscosity of 3000-50000cSt at 100 deg.C and 10-90wt.% of one or more kind of an ethylene/vinyl acetate resin with a melt flow rate of 5-2000 dg/min.
