PURPOSE: To produce a sheet not only excellent in strength and DI formability but also excellent in the formability (neck workability, flange workability and seaming workability) of the edge parts of a can body after DI working and coating baking treatment and to provide a method for producing the same. CONSTITUTION: This Al allay sheet is the one having a compsn. contg. 0.5 to 1.8% Mg, 0.5 to 1.8% Mn, 0.3 to 0.8% Fe and 0.15 to 0.8% Si, satisfying$2 Fe/Si ratio, furthermore contg. trace amounts of Ti (and B), moreover contg., at need, small amounts of Cu, Cr and Zn, and the balance substantial Al, and in which the alphatizing ratio of Al-Mn intermetallic compounds is regulated to >=30% and intermetallic compounds of 5 to 2μm on the surface of the sheet are present by >=10000 pieces/mm<2> . The same alloy us cast, and after that, at the time of executing homogenizing treatment at 530 to 610 deg.C for 2 to 24 hr, the temp. rising rate in the temp. range of 450 to 500 deg.C in the temp rising stage is regulated to <=70 deg.C/hr or intermediate holding for 0.5 to 2hr is executed in the same temp. range.
