PURPOSE: To effectively prevent scales from forming without any regard to the kind of polymer or a method by polymerizing a monomer containing an ethylenically unsaturated double bond in a polymerizer having an inner wall in which a film of a scale deposition preventing agent is formed on a gold (alloy) film. CONSTITUTION: This method for producing a polymer is to polymerize a monomer having an ethylenically unsaturated double bond in a polymerizer in which a film of a scale deposition preventing agent is further formed on a film comprising gold or an alloy based on the gold in at least a part in contact with a reactional mixture. The monomer is represented by the formula, CH2 =CXY (X is hydrogen or methyl; Y is hydrogen, an alkyl, COOH, etc.) and styrene,α-methylstyrene, vinyl acetate, etc., are cited. The alloy based on the gold is preferably an Au-Co alloy, an Au-Ni alloy, etc., containing >=50% gold and the film thickness is 0.01-3μm, preferably 1-3μm. A part where the film is not formed is ground. The scale deposition preventing agent such as an aniline-4- -aminochlorophenol/o-chloronitrobenzene condensate is formed into the film so as to provide 0.001-3g/m<2> total coating weight.
