PRODUCTION OF EPSILON-CAPROLACTONE

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound from cyclohexanone and hydrogen peroxide in ultrahigh yield without any fear of corrosiveness for a reactional vessel and toxicity by using a zeolite treated by organic halogenation as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION: This method for producing ε-caprolactone is to use a zeolite, obtained by treating (A) zeolite at (26:1) to (70:1) silica/alumina ratio with (B) an organic halogen compound and treated by organic halogenation as a catalyst, in reacting cyclohexanone with hydrogen peroxide. Furthermore, the halogenating treatment is to heat the component (A) with the vaporized component (B) and a 1-10C halogen-substituted hydrocarbon in which at least one F or Cl is bound to C (e.g. chlorotrifluoromethane) is preferably used as the component (B). The amount of the component (B) used is preferably 0.01-10g based on 1g component (A).
