SATELLITE RNAS MODIFIED AS ADAPTABLE CARRIER OF RIBOSIME ANDSATELLITE VIRUS

Modified ribozymes comprise: (a) nucleolytically active RNA sequences capable of cleaving viral genomic RNA, mRNA or hnRNA and (b) satellite viruses or satellite RNA functionally linked with the nucleolytically active RNA sequences. Also claimed are: (1) a process for producing modified ribozymes, comprising functionally linking nucleolytically active RNA sequences as above with satellite viruses or satellite RNA; (2) a process for producing virus-resistant plants, comprising (a) transforming plant cells with DNA coding for the (sic) enzymatic RNA mols., (b) stably integrating the DNA into the plant genome, and (c) regenerating plants from these cells; and (3) DNA fragments coding for the modified ribozymes as above.
