This fire-extinguishing system employs an element, for generating air at great pressure, equipped with a flexible high-pressure hose which, duly oriented, projects a flow of air onto the fire at a pressure of from 10 to 50 kg per square centimetre, it being possible to mix the air with an abrasive such as silica and also with water, in order to produce a wet-air/abrasive mixture. It applies especially to the fighting of forest or agricultural fires and to the formation of firebreaks owing to the use of the abrasive with the mixture of air at great pressure. Owing to the low weight and stand-alone nature of the element for generating the mixture of air at high pressure, it can easily be moved to the site of the fire however inaccessible the affected (disaster) area is.
