The procedure uses a main printed surface (1) with a concealed message (11) on one of its faces, and a second printed surface (2) which reveals the concealed message to the sender. The message, covered by a thin layer of a removable material, is then transmitted, e.g. in the form of a postcard, to the recipient (B), who scratches off the layer to read the message. The concealed information can form part of a complex message, of which the other part is immediately legible, e.g. a question and an answer. The printed surface carrying the concealed message could be supplied in a package or envelope which reveals the concealed message to the sender.
