The toasting chamber (8) is arranged between fixing heating elements (4, 6) in a housing (2) under a cover (10) in which a slot (12) is provided for the bread. At the ends of the slot, outer and inner bearings (20, 22) carry the pivot arms (40, 44) of a special grid (30) for rolls. The bars (32, 34) can be swung between working and rest positions in the same direction (66, 68) of rotation. In the rest position the axes (42, 46) of rotation are distanced from the supporting elements (36, 38). The bar (34) having the shorter arms (44) is coupled to a handle (60) and has a projection (48) for driving the other bar (32).
