The machine has a frame (1) with a conveyor chain (2) able to supply the covers on a unitary basis to an operating head in the form of a pair of eccentrics (3-3') placed symmetrically on both sides of the conveyor chain (2) and suitably synchronised. Coupled to the eccentrics the is an adjustable transverse bridge (4) which is the support for a varnishing nozzle (5). The rotary movement of the eccentrics (3) is transformed into a planetary action for the nozzle which, thanks to their adjustment, is adapted exactly to the circumference outline of the incisions in the covers. The nozzle is linked to the varnish supply tank through a flexible pipe (7) which can take up the relative movements between the two elements.
