Each beam has a profiled surface (6) with nozzle openings (12) towards the strip material. The forward and rear ends (7,8) of this surface are at a greater distance apart than that between the surface mid-point (9) and the material. Adjacent beams in each row are close enough together to form triangular-section transverse passages (Q). The adjacent ends of their profiled surfaces form outlet slots (18) acting as throttles. In the material travel direction, the width (w) of the slots can be between one-eighth and one-fifteenth of that (d) of the beams. The latter can have curved or oval profiled surfaces. The profiled surface can join together two parallel sidewalls of a nozzle tube which elsewhere is of polygonal cross-section.
