The intensity of the position-resolved IR radiation emitted from the tissue surface (H) is measured at a first time to . The temp. distribution T(x,y,to) dependent on two position coordinates (x,y) is recorded. The tissue surface (H) is continuously irradiated during a predetermined time interval delta t with photons (L) or wavelength 600 nm is less than or equal to lambda which is less than or equal to 2500 nm. At a second time point, t is greater than or equal to + (delta t) after the irradiation, the intensity of the emitted IR radiation is again measured and a new temp. distribution T(x,y,t) is recorded. The temp. difference T(x,y) = T(x,y,t) - T(x,y,to) and temp. gradient T'(x,y) = T(x,y)/(delta t) are determined.
