WINDING DEVICE AND METHOD

Device for helically winding one or more strips (5) about a cylindrical body (12), wherein a device (20) for starting the winding operation is associated with a strip distributing device (16). Two rollers (30 and 32) of the device (20) grasp the beginning portion (7) of the strip (5) from the distributing device (16). These idler rollers (30 and 32) are then moved into a position in which the roller (30) engages with the cylindrical body (12) rotating in relation to the device (20). The rotating idler rollers (30 and 32) pull the strip (5) and the roller (30) then presses the beginning portion (7) of the strip onto the cylindrical body (12). The invention also provides a method using such a device.
