The sheets are fed in a direction at right angles to the movement of a perforated suction belt (13, 15) which is overlapped by a lateral stop (6) movable to either side on a traverse (12). A fan (19) in a suction box (16) creates a partial vacuum in an opening (17) below the upper strand (13) of the belt. A slider (8) within the opening partially covers the effective area of the belt at an angle to its direction of movement. The position of the edge of each sheet is monitored by a photocell (9) controlling the vacuum.
