<p>Apparatus, systems and methods are provided for controlling energy consumption by a selectively enabled processing system, such as a high-density code scanner. The selectively enabled processing system has at least one high-power consumption microprocessor (101) which does not include a low-power consumption mode. Also included are a power-supply (117), a switch and a trigger (111) for turning ON and OFF the power-supply (117), and a function for performing diagnostics. The performing diagnostics function operates on at least a portion of the selectively enabled processing system whenever the power-supply (117) is initially switched ON, and inhibit the power-supply (117) upon diagnostics completion. The trigger selectively enables function for causing the microprocessor (101) to consume the power-supply (117) for a pre-set time period while processing, and then inhibits the power-supply (117) upon expiration of the time period without re-performing diagnostics.</p> |
