A tyre, esp. a radial ply tyre for cars, trucks, trailers travelling at high speeds under high loads and mounted on flat well, angled shoulder or steep shouldered rims has a cooling system comprising grooves and ribs and possibly naps or small pyramids which cover the sidewalls (A-B) and the tread at the sides of an in the base (M) of the main drainage channels (P). The system increases tyre surface area and the mean surface enlargement density (O) is pref. greater than 0.4 and follows the relationship. O = V x D (n/mm) where V = the normal surface (A-B) enlargement factor and D = the no. (n) of cooling grooves/mm.
