SANDER VIBRATION ISOLATOR

A vibration stabilizer (70) is provided for a power tool such as a sander which has a pivotally oscillating drive shaft (28) for supporting a tool head (54). The tool is provided with an elongate body (24) having an internal cavity aligned along a longitudinal axis (22) for receiving a drive motor therein. A drive shaft (28) is pivotally supported upon the elongate body rotatable about a pivot axis (30). The drive motor operatively engages the drive shaft to cause the drive shaft to pivotally oscillate within a limited angular range when the drive motor is energized. Relative vibration between the tool head and the elongate body is minimized by an elastic ring (70) which extends about the drive shaft and is interposed between the tool head and the elongate body. The elastic ring is loaded in compression axially biasing the tool head and the attached drive shaft in a direction away from the elongate body.
