<p>The fuel inlet tube (12) of a top-feed fuel injector has a larger O.D. (80) proximate its inlet end (56) than it does at its opposite end where a tubular non-ferromagnetic shell (26) is laser-welded to it. The through-hole (84) in the coil's bobbin (46) has a smaller diameter portion (90) and a larger diameter portion (88), the larger diameter portion (88) being disposed closer to the fuel inlet tube's inlet (56) than is the smaller diameter portion (90). The larger diameter portion (88) of the bobbin's through-hole (84) and the larger outside diameter portion (82) of the fuel inlet tube (12) are mutually axially overlapping to an extent that, during the fabrication process, the coil assembly (18) can be disposed axially on the fuel inlet tube (12) to a position allowing the laser-welding of the shell (26) to the inlet tube (12) to be performed, and thereafter the coil assembly (18) disposed to cover the laser-welded joint.</p> |
