The invention concerns a Stirling engine for converting thermal energy into mechanical energy and vice versa. Said engine comprises a displacer housing containing a plate-like displacer, which moves therein in a reciprocating manner, and a heater, a regenerator and a cooler. In order to minimize the number of mechanical parts which move and are therefore in need of maintenance, and to couple the load simply and efficiently, the displacer (1) is formed by the heater (2), regenerator (3) and cooler (4) such that the heater is disposed in the upper part of the displacer housing (5) so that it can be exposed to incident thermal radiation. A displacer actuator (7) is provided to generate a restoring spring force on a central point of the displacer (1) in the displacer housing (5) in order to move the displacer (1) in dependence on the pressure ratios in the displacer housing (5) and to counterbalance the displacer (1) and stabilise its position parallel to the base plate of the displacer housing (5). An oscillating compressor water column (8) is used to compress and expand the air in the displacer housing (5) and an energy decoupling arrangement (9) is constructed so as to dissipate the mechanical energy generated.
|
