<p>A cutterhead (10), particularly for wood lathe tooling includes one or more sleeves (14) each of which has an inner hydraulically operated circumferential gripper for securement to a rotatable arbor (12), and an outer, independently hydraulically operated circumferential gripper for securement to a cylinder (16). The outer peripheral surface of the cylinder is provided with longitudinal dovetail ribs (38). Knife carriers (18) and spacefilling limiters (20) slide axially onto these ribs (38) and are locked in place by set screws (102, 114). Each carrier (18) has a slot (22) for radially receiving a knife (24) to be gripped between a wedge (26) and a corrugated keeper (28). The keeper (28) and carrier slot (22) are keyed together to provide for radial adjustment of the knife (24). A threaded pin (30) restrains slot spreading and radially retains the wedge (26) and keeper (28). Wedge action prevents radial throwing of elements should someone neglect to secure the carriers (18) or limiters (20), or neglect to elevate the wedges (26). Knives (24) are slotted for easy removal, and corrugated to match the keepers (28) to facilitate knife (24) height adjustment. All but inner and outer rings of the sleeves (14), the threaded pins (30) and keepers (28) are made of aluminum. The knives (24) are made of steel.</p> |
