The line of contact (7) of the rounded area with the cylinder wall lies on, or just below, the central plane of the piston ring. The contour of the area (6), which engages with the cylinder wall is formed by a wedge which lies approx. symmetrical to the line of contact (7) and is defined by tangential areas (8,9).
