Prodn. of polyamides (I) comprises polymerisation or polycondensation of monomers in presence of triacetone- diamine cpd(s) of formula (II), where R is H, 1-20C hydrocarbyl, pref. 1-18C alkyl, or benzyl. Also claimed are (i) inherently light-stabilised polyamides (I) with amine residues derived by removing H from the NH2 gp. of (II) chemically bonded to the polymer chain; (ii) a process for the prodn. of polycaprolactam-based filaments from (I), by high-speed spinning with take-off speeds of at least 4000 m/min.; (iii) filaments obtd. by this process; and (iv) fibres and textile sheets produced from the filaments.
