Transformation parameter determination method for automatic image recording, e.g. for navigation systems

The method involves determining translation vectors and rotation angles using one-dimensional correlation of radial projections of selected templates (1) (sub image regions) of current and reference images. Geometric scaling factors are determined using one-dimensional correlation of angular projections of selected templates of current and reference images. The radial and angle (4) projections are formed using annular masks (6). The masks for radial projections are divided in equal angle segments. The masks for angle projections are divided in equal width concentric rings.
