The measurement device has a rectangular base plate (1) with a narrow side which can be applied to a stop. Its long side is sawtooth shaped with uniform tooth depth (4) and straight tooth edges (2) but with edge angle varying along the long side. The distance between successive tooth tips (12) corresp. to the minimum interval and the distance between successive tooth feet (13) corresp. to the maximum interval. A measurement rail (5) is movable perpendicular to the longitudinal base plate axis between two end points. The long edge of the rail covers the tooth tips in one end position and the tooth feet in the other.
