<p>A lighter than air apparatus (1) is provided with a gas impermeable sheeting material (29) having a pathway (25) either extending through the apparatus (1) itself or adjacent to the apparatus (1). One or more control surfaces (27) are provided proximately to an aperture (26) in the pathway (25) for deflecting air passing through the pathway (25). A propulsion unit (55) within the pathway (25) propels air through the pathway (25). The pathway (25), the control surfaces (27), and the control unit (figure 19) allow the lighter than air apparatus (1) to control its bearing and efficiently maintain its position over the Earth.</p> |
