The invention concerns a transdermal therapeutic system which contains oestradiol as active substance and has a layered structure. This layered structure comprises a backing which is impervious to the active substance and moisture, an active substance-containing matrix and, possibly, a separable protective layer covering the matrix. The system is characterized in that the matrix contains glycerol which contains a maximum of 1 % water or which is substantially anhydrous.
