Synthesis of chemical gels from polyelectrolyte polysaccharides by gamma-irradiation

A method for the synthesis for chemical gels or hydrogels from polyelectrolyte polysaccharides includes the steps of functionalizing the polyelectrolyte polysaccharide in order to introduce double bonds into the structure thereof; and subjecting the functionalized polysaccharide to gamma-irradiation in order to produce the hydrogel which constitutes a crosslinked structure. The produced hydrogel may be formed to be biocompatible and may be used as a slow release system for drugs.
