Crucible for inductive heating/melting of metals

A crucible for inductive melting or heating of metals, alloys or other electrically conducting materials has at least three parallel vertical sections 3 to 10 distributed around a circle to form a palisade around the melt. There is a disc 33 carrying the palisade. The sections are hollow for coolant flow and around them is a winding 2 to give induction heating. Groups of adjacent sections have their pipework joined and each group is electrically insulated from the other groups and from isolated sections. The gap between the sections is such that depending on the insulation material or because of the vacuum, virtually no current can flow from section to section across the side faces.
