Conveyor with holding cells

The roller conveyor has the rollers driven by friction contact with a drive belt. Solenoid-operated servo cylinders (10) control the friction contact in the holding cells (4, 8, 9). When the drive belt is lowered away from the drive rollers a brake belt stops the rollers. The solenoid valves are interlocked by a simple logic which enables the load items to be stopped in each cell, with the same spacing to the other load items. The entry of the first load item into the leading cell connects all the solenoid valves to the supply while a simple OR logic enables each cell to operate independently. This replaces a group drive for the servos.
