An optically stable laser resonator has an end mirror (1), a decoupling window (2), a laser-active medium (3) and a pair of spherical optical mirrors arranged inside the resonator and of which one is a diverging mirror (4) and the other is a converging mirror (5). The object of the invention is to design a resonator with a compact structure that almost totally corrects any astigmatism. For that purpose, the angle of incidence W1 on the converging mirror (5) in relation to the resonator base mode beam axis A1 equals more than 10 DEG and less than 45 DEG and the incidence angle W2 on the diverging mirror (4) in relation to the resonator base mode beam axis A2 is determined by a formula, the distance SA between the mirrors and the focal distances f2 and f2 of the mirrors being predetermined.
