A mascara case includes a vial (12) for storing mascara, and a cap (14) mountable on the vial (12) for closing a passage of the vial (12). The passage (24) is a oblong shape to accomodate insertion and removal of the transverse brush (26) of a T-shaped wand carried by the cap (14). The cap (14) also carries an oblong sealing ridge (86) engageable with a sealing surface (46) of the vial (12) to surround an inlet of the passage (24). The cap (14) carries a rotary knob (18) which includes a projection (102) positioned to engage a locking post (30) disposed on the vial (12), in response to manual rotation of the knob (18). Engagement between the projection (102) and locking post (30) causes the cap (14) and vial (12) to be drawn together so that the sealing ridge (86) forms an air-tight seal around the vial passage (24).
