A container (19) made of thermoformable and heat sealable material comprises (a) a hollow casing formed by a pair of halves (2) having opposing concavities, (b) a heat seal (3) joining the edges of the halves (2) and forming a stiffening rib on the outside of the container, (c) an indentation (5) in the base of the container in which the bottom horizontal portion of the heat seal (3) is located, and (d) indentations in the sides (20) of the container in which the lateral portions (21) of the heat seal (3) are located. Also claimed is a thermoformed container having a stiffening rib formed by a heat seal, wherein the container halves are obtd. by folding a single sheet along a line which defines the lower edge of the container and is located in an indentation of sufficient height to prevent interfering with the supporting surface of the container. Also claimed is a method of mfg. containers from sheets of thermoformable material including heat sealing of the edges and simultaneously forming a number of intercommunicating conduits (75,75a) for insufflation of a fluid to avoid sealing of the central areas of the sheets. Also claimed is appts. for carrying out this method.
