Method and device for forming a pile of articles grouped in batches

The stack forming process comprises forming a stack of grouped material offcuts on an base (12). Firstly, a free end of the endless separating band (30) which separates the groups in the base zone. The offcuts of the first group (40) are then stacked on top of each other. A zone of the band is led over the last offcut of the first group and left there. The offcuts of the next group are then laid on the last one of the first group, with the said band zone fixed. The groups and separating band sectors are then laid on top of each other alternately.
