PURPOSE: To form scalable characters constituting a font data base by forming character codes, character models, local dimensions and segment descriptors. CONSTITUTION: A character is selected from a character set stored in a font data base, a character code is specified, (1310), the contour of the selected character is formed (1322), a segment end point in a character model obtained for the character is determined by using the character contour (1330), and the local dimension of an associative character corresponding to the character model is measured (1340). Then the segment descriptor of each shape segment in the character contour is determined (1350), operation for remaining characters is repeated (1360), total dimension to be applied to a set of characters is determined (1372), and character codes, character models, local dimensions, and segment descriptors corresponding to respective characters are formed together with the whole dimension. |
