PURPOSE:To provide the method and device for processing document by easily discriminating whether or not the document information is changed from the former reference of the document information by a user by the time of reference. CONSTITUTION:A document information group 611 which holds plural pieces of document information and the updating time information of each user of the document information held in the document information group 611 are stored in user document reference time information 62. When the document information held in the group 611 is read out by specifying the user, the updating time information of the read document information is read out from the information 62. A person who updates the document information lately judges whether or not he is another person. According to the judgement, the document information updated by him is identifiably displayed on a display part 4.
