PURPOSE:To realize the controller of an automatic transmission which can suppress any speed change shock as well as to perform enough warming up and also is suitably used for a diesel engine vehicle, etc. CONSTITUTION:A controller 5 is provided with an engine control unit 7 to control a diesel engine 6, an AT control unit 9 to control an automatic transmission 8 and a torque reducing means 10 to reduce the torque of the diesel engine 6 during a speed change time by the automatic transmission 8 so as to reduce a speed change shock. The torque reducing means 10 is provided with an exhaust reflux control part 18 which applies an exhaust reflux to reflux engine exhaust to an intake side manifold 12 during the speed change time by the automatic transmission 8 when the warming up of the diesel engine 6 is required so as to reduce the engine torque.
