PURPOSE:To prevent generation of a harmful gas at the time of buring and improve the safety at the time of a fire by containing 50-300 pts. by wt. of a solid solution of magnesium hydroxide and nickel in 100 pts.by wt. of polyolefin. CONSTITUTION:A solid solution of magnesium hydroxide and nickel to be mixed with polyolefin is used as a flame redarding agent, is acompound having a formula Mg1-xNi(OH)2 wherein x=0.01-0.5, and 50-300 pts. by wt. of the solid solution is contained in 100 pts. by wt. of polyolefin. In the case the content is lower than 50 pts. by wt., aiming flame redarding property can not be provided and in the case the content exceeds 300 pts. by wt., the toughness is deteriorated. As the flame retarding agent, one with 3Xm average particle size and treated with a fatty acid metal salt, a silane-based coupling agent, and a titanate-based coupling agent may be preferably used. The reason why the flame retarding property is improved is because dehydration function of the solid solution affects effectively the thermal decomposition and burning of the polymer near the decomposition temperature of the object polyolefin and because the nickel of the solid solution accelerates dehydrogenation of the polymer. |
