PURPOSE: To retain traveling of a vehicle by informing engagement faults of an auxiliary transmission section, retaining to the present gear ratio of the auxiliary transmission section and shifting the transmission gear ratio of a main transmission section in the case that a transmission is engaged in a ratio other than a target ratio. CONSTITUTION: After instruction that, firstly, a main transmission section 212 is shifted to a neutral position, and next, an auxiliary transmission section 214 is shifted so as to be engaged in the required auxiliary transmission section gear ratio, the main transmission section 212 is shifted so as to be engaged in the desired main transmission section gear ratio. At this time, when the auxiliary transmission section gear ratio is not engaged in the target gear ratio although a main transmission section gear ratio is properly engaged, the engagement condition of an auxiliary section gear is detected. As a result, in the case that the auxiliary section gear ratio is immediately engaged in the already known ratio other than the target gear ratio, a degraded-at-fault operating mode is executed so as to fix the gear ratio of the auxiliary transmission section 214 to the already known ratio, and after that, the main section only can be shifted thereby, the auxiliary section gear ratio is substitutionally engaged in the gear ratio other than the target gear ratio so as to complete the gear shift of the transmission 12. Thereby, traveling of a vehicle can be retained. |
