ROAD-SIGN MATERIAL AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To enhance the long-term adhesiveness to a road by bonding a discontinuous polymeric layer, which is formed from a plurality of segments wherein the distance between the segments being in contact with a flexible support sheet comformable to an irregular road surface is a specific value and has a plurality of fine particles embedded therein and protruded therefrom, to the single surface of the support sheet. CONSTITUTION: A road marking material 10 includes a flexible support sheet 12 which is comformable to an irregular road surface 16 and a durable and abrasion-resistant discontinuous polymeric top layer 18 including a plurality of the segments bonded to the single surface of the support sheet 18. The distance between the segments being in contact with the support sheet 12 is at least 1.5 mm. Retroreflective microspheres 26 and skid-resistant particles 28 are partially embedded in and protruded from the polymeric top layer. This polymeric top layer 18 is discontinuously formed on the support sheet to lower elastic tensile stress tending to be accumulated in the continuous top layer.
