PURPOSE: To provide a method for synchronizing the clocks of a first station and a second station for performing optical communication. CONSTITUTION: First synchronizing signals including first clock signals are transmitted from the first station E1 to the second station EX and correlated with second synchronizing signals in the second station EX so as to obtain correlation signals. The correlation signals are sent back from the second station EX to the first station E1 in response to the transmission of the first synchronizing signals, the correlation signals are evaluated in the first station E1 and the result of the evaluation is used for the adjustment of the first clock signals of the first station.
