PURPOSE:To provide fine adjustability for the lamp illuminance and also possibility of its change to a wide extent and to shorten the dimming control time by furnishing a means to turn on and off a dim switch intermittently and varying the change amount of the illuminance per unit time of an illumination load. CONSTITUTION:An illumination device comprises a lamp 3, a lighting device 2 to light it up upon receiving a lighting control signal S1 from a lighting control device 1, and a dim-light switch 4 and dim-dark switch 5 to feed dim-light information and dim-dark information, respectively, to the control device 1. For example, the illuminance increases gradually if the dim-light switch 4 is kept on continuously in the condition that the lamp 3 is off, and the speed of illuminance increment is retarded by once stopping at 25% followed by pushing again, and the speed is further retarded by once stopping followed by pushing again at 50%. The varying speed of illuminance is retarded every time putting-on and -off is made also in case the dim-dark switch 5 is pushed in the condition that the lamp 3 operates at 100%. Accordingly the target illuminance is approached quickly so that fine adjustability is provided.
