<p>PURPOSE: To improve processing efficiency without necessity to transmit additional information concerning table selection by selecting a variable length coding(VLC) table based on the level of quantizing parameter and inter/intra- mode information. CONSTITUTION: At a variable length encoder 200, compressed data from an inter/intra-mode compression block 100 are supplied to a 1st switch SW10 and an inter/intra-mode select signal from the block 100 is supplied to the SW10 as a control signal. In case of inter-mode, the compressed data are supplied to a 1st VLC table 220 and in case of intra-mode, the compressed data are supplied to a 2nd switch SW20 to be controlled by a switch control block 280. At the block 280, the control signal is supplied from a control block 400 by a quantizing parameter QP. In case of QP<16, the compressed data are supplied to a 2nd VLC table 260. While using data inputted to the tables 220 and 260 as addresses, output data become variable length code words.</p> |
