PURPOSE:To provide a high contrast liquid crystal element showing uniform and excellent orientation state by performing more excellent orientation state and performing a liquid crystal layer having small layer tilt angle as same as or near the bookshelf structure. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal element is obtained by arranging a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition containing a compound expressed by formulas I and III between glass substrates 11a and 11b having respectively orientation control layers 13a and 13b having a condensed polycyclic hydrocarbon in the skeleton. |
