The broomhead (1), made e.g from moulded rigid plastic and having a socket (3) to receive a handle, is covered with a layer of a material such as polyurethane. The moulded broom head is placed in a slightly larger mould, into which liquid polyurethane is poured, covering the head completely with a thin layer. After the over-moulding process the broom head has holes made in it for the bristle tufts.
