Product which allows degradation of ethylene present in food storage areas, by means of permanganate which is mixed with a hygroscopic salt that captures the water needed for oxidation of the ethylene by the permanganate, the mixture of permanganate and hygroscopic salt being placed on the surface of an inert carrier.
